The Making of Mister Cellophane 🤍

Everyone knows the legendary ballad Mister Cellophane from the musical Chicago. John C. Reilly’s performance in the film adaptation is so heartbreaking. And Chris Colfer’s performance on Glee is classic. Brushing away his bang? A star is born.

But have you ever seen Broadway icon Ben Vereen perform it? On the Muppet Show, no less. His choreography is on point and you truly cannot keep your eyes off him. The other Muppets singing along increased the charm factor by about a billion points. Also, the way his costume blends into the set? Amazing detail.

After seeing this song performed on a children’s show, why not mash it up with another childhood staple?

Enter: Little Miss and Mr. Men.

These books were everythingggg in elementary school. Do I remember their stories? Nope lol. But I’ll never forget their book covers: big blocky letters, round and friendly faces, plus the author’s name written in cursive.

The sketch came quickly. I pulled the pose from John C. Reilly, but the costume and color palette is all Ben Vereen. Bland sepia ftw! For the backer card, I added a little note behind the pin. You can only see it when you remove the pin. Just wanted to add a little somethin’ somethin’.

And the rest is history! Mister Cellophane was the first installment in our Little Miss/ Mr. Men parody series. If you want to give him a forever home, he’s available in the shop. Thanks for reading ❤️
